Protocol and Class Rule of the 37th America's Cup
Auckland, New Zealand: The Protocol of the 37th America's Cup was released today by the Defender, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Emirates Team New Zealand and the Challenger of Record - Royal Yacht Squadron Ltd and their representative team INEOS Britannia, eight months to the day after Emirates Team New Zealand successfully defended the America's Cup.

The Protocol sets the foundations and rules of participation for all teams in the 37th America's Cup and records the items of mutual consent under the America's Cup Deed of Gift agreed between the Defender and the Challenger of Record which establishes the basis for a multi challenger event.

An updated 'Version 2' of the AC75 Class Rule has been released from the last America's Cup which specifies the latest requirements to be compliant with the class rule including modification requirements for new teams buying 'Version 1 AC75's' that were built and used by teams competing in AC36.

Cost reduction has been a key consideration as part of the balance in the development of the AC37 Protocol including:

- Teams are only permitted to build one new AC75.
- Limitations on the quantity of foils and componentry that can be built for the AC75's.
- Introduction of the multipurpose One Design AC40 class which teams will be able to convert and use for testing, component development and Match Race training.
- AC40 class will then be converted back to the measured One Design AC40 class for use in the exciting new America's Cup Women's Regatta and America's Cup Youth events. These events have been developed to create new accelerated inclusive pathways into the America's Cup for the growing global talent pool of female and youth sailors.
- Race crew onboard the AC75 reduced from 11 to 8 sailors.
- Further One design elements.
- Shared team recon.
- Supplied starting software.
- The AC75 class of boat will be maintained for the next two events.

Cascade
... when trickledown really is too small a description. The trickle-down effect is supposed to happen slowly but this time its pace is very fast indeed. Grant Dalton throws out his lure. Who will he catch
Team New Zealand boss Grant Dalton believes the new America's Cup protocol can give the small fleet a much-needed boost by attracting new teams.

The defenders and Sir Ben Ainslie's challenger of record Britannia released the protocol and a revised AC75 class rule on Wednesday, providing the parameters for the next event to be sailed in 2024 at a venue to be named by the end of next March.

Just four teams were involved in Auckland this year as the costly new class of foiling monohulls were introduced.

The sensible decision to retain the radical boat and introduce other cost-containing measures leave Dalton hopeful the next Cup will have more teams

Startup syndicates are able to purchase a first edition AC75 and Dalton confirmed Team New Zealand had "two offers on the table for their first boat".

Both were from new teams, which he saw as a promising sign.

Transat Jacques Vabre: The Equator Beckons
As the fleet heads south the crews are absorbed by strategy, tactics and what on earth to wear.

Ocean Fifty: down in the Doldrums

The entire Ocean Fifty fleet is now approaching or in the Doldrums. But the three leading boats are still dominating. Over the last 24 hours, they have covered more miles than Sodebo Ultim 3, which is in the same waters. Primonial continues to lead ahead of Koesio and Solidaires en Peloton-Arsep. As the Ocean Fifty boats are following a shorter route than the Ultimes, they are also expected in Martinique on 23rd November.

Class40: Canaries split the fleet in two

25 boats have now passed the Canaries. This first half of the fleet is spread out over 400 miles. It is still led by the same boats: Redman and Volvo, positioned further west. The other half of the fleet remains north of the Canaries, 20 boats spread out over 300 nautical miles. Terre Exotique is rear guard over 700 miles behind the leader just north of Madeira.

2022 ORC European Championship Notice of Race Published
Hanko, Norway: Organizers with Hanko Yacht Club, the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (KNS) and the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) are pleased to announce that the Notice of Race for the 2022 ORC European Championship is now available on the event's website at www.orcieuro2022.no

Early interest of this event has been outstanding: already 33 entries from 6 countries have pre-registered their intent to attend, with many more expected in the coming weeks. The reason is the event is allowing a maximum number of 100 entries: 20 in Class A and 40 each in Classes B and C.

Discount entry fees increase after 31 May, and increase again after the closing date for pre-registration on 5 July 2022.

As with other ORC championship events, the format for the regatta is 3 days of registration, inspection and measurements held over 5-7 August. 2021 Nacra 17, 49erFX and 49er Worlds
Mussanah, Oman: A mere three months since the closing ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics and less than three years from the Paris 2024 opening ceremonies, new teams are grasping their opportunity to make a name for themselves at the 2021 Nacra 17, 49erFX and 49er world championships at Mussanah, Oman.

The puffy easterly seabreezes and cloudless Massanah sky made for a gentle first day of the championship hosted by the resort and waterfront home of Oman Sail. The turnout to these post-Olympics championships were equally as mild, but this isn't quite the usual worlds after an Olympics.

The difference this time is there's one year lost in the Paris 2024 quadrennium due to a late Tokyo Games and each fleet has a leader who has emerged from their deep squads to take pole position at a major event for the first time, leaving some Tokyo Olympians down in the rankings.

The young Finnish FX team of Ronja Gronblom and Veera Hokka eclipsed their fleet with an 8, 2, 1 to end day one five points clear of Norwegian Tokyo 2020 Olympians Helene Naess and Marie Ronningen. The Norwegian pair were one of three 2020 Olympians who wasted no time re-starting their campaigns after competing in Tokyo, all were in the top six of the 22-boat fleet.

The 2021 World Championship runs from November 16-21, 2021 from Mussanah, Oman.

49er will have three days of qualifying followed by two days of gold fleet and a medal race.

49erFX and Nacra 17 will have five days of racing followed by a medal race.

Live broadcasts of the racing from November 19-21, 2021

DAME Award 2021 Winner: Volvo Penta Assisted Docking
Company: AB Volvo Penta
Category: Machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings

Jury Comment: Volvo Penta has maximised the advantage it has of being able to independently vector thrust from its proven IPS (Inboard Performance System) drives. The Assisted Docking system digitally controls that ability using an Electronic Vessel Control system and integrated Dynamic Position System to provide hitherto unknown levels of fine manoeuvring ability. The system is easily operated via a joystick controller, even by a novice user of a motor yacht. A Glass Cockpit System assists situational awareness. If the person at the helm needs more time to think, they can take their hand off the joystick and the boat holds its precise position until the control is touched again.

On Sunday November 6, 2022, the most legendary of transatlantic races, the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, will start. For its 12th edition, the queen of solo sailing events remains totally true to its fundamental philosophies; a festive, popular start from Saint-Malo, an open, unconstructed solo race across the Atlantic with a tour of Guadeloupe before the finish in Pointe-a-Pitre fuelled by the passion of the entire island.

120 solo sailors, divided into six distinct classes, will take a start that many will cross harbouring different ambitions. For some, it will be a race in pursuit of victory, for others, a race to fulfil a transatlantic racing dream of a lifetime. Since its creation back in 1978, "the Rum" continues to distil its potent magic.

To launch the countdown to this unmissable event, OC Sport Pen Duick, the organizer of the event, is proud to welcome Lornet, the French Watchmaking brand of Excellence, as Official Timekeeper. They are a tailor-made partner for a demanding race.

This traditional watchmaking house is contributing to the renaissance of French watchmaking know-how and demonstrates the precision and skills of an entire country by combining exclusivity, innovation, and tradition. The Lornet watch is 100% French made, which makes it unique.
